Today Anna and I say goodbye to “Papa” Scott, Tanya and Viktor. A private driver will pick us up in an hour, and drive through the night to get us to Kiev by 4 AM. We have a 6AM flight. Hopefully we will sleep in the van. I’m pretty sure the emotional, physical, and spiritual exhaustion will set in and help with that.
We are grateful that we made some big strides with Viktor’s passport today. Natasha and Viktor got the petition signed and made the second necessary step, so that by Tuesday Viktor will have his “old” regional passport, which can be changed to a new one when the 10 day waiting period is over, with his new name, Viktor Daniel Lawry. Then we can get his visa, and then his international passport. So far it looks as though this won’t hold us up longer than expected. Thanks be to God.
Scott, Martha, Tanya, Anna and I spent the day with Pastor Nicolai, his wife Anya, and their 3 daughters at the Zaporozhye Zoo. It was a gorgeous day, and we all enjoyed the beautiful weather, animals, gardens, and each other’s company. Anna and Tanya will miss those 3 girls.
Viktor and I enjoyed one last soccer match in the living room with our favorite red rubber ball, and despite my broken toe (I landed on it wrong yesterday), I gave Viktor a good run for his money. He went easy on me though, and I know I will definitely miss our games. I’ll get the soccer goal ready in the backyard when I get home.
Tanya and I spent some time picking out her bedding online, as well as some shopping for some more clothes. I know Anna will miss her new big brother and sister so much as we head home, but we are all looking forward to seeing Mary, Scotty and Isaac.
Scott and I had our melancholy moments, anticipating the different dynamic [Rachel ran out of time before she had to leave for Kiev...Scott picks up.] without Momma & Anna here & leaving 2 babies here. It was an ideal goodbye. Family devotions, followed by a walk down to the awaiting taxi, with hugs and kisses goodbye. Sad, but hopeful. We have much to look forward to as God has expanded our family! This is not to say that things will be easy: we know that things will be hard. But it will wonderfully hard.
