We sent our completed dossier 2 weeks ago, and it was submitted to the Ukrainian authorities on April 9th. What a nerve-racking day that was as we tracked our dossier through DHL’s online tracking system, and how excited we were when we received word that it had officially made it into the right hands! Honestly, all the work that went into that precious dossier made it hard to send. But we were so thankful to know it made it safely.
The Ukrainian government usually takes 20 days to process these dossiers, so we are waiting to hear in the next week or two when our date for our court date. They typically give you a few weeks notice, so that you have time to make your travel arrangements and make preparations to get over there. This means that a May travel date is possible!
Every room in our home has been rearranged to make room. Viktor’s room is ready. The girls’ room is ready. Our closets have been cleaned out and the nesting seems to be done. We have spent precious time together as a family of 6, preparing our younger children for what is to come, and investing much-needed time as a family.
In isaiah, chapter 40, the prophet speaks of the coming king of Israel, Jesus himself, as he writes about John the Baptist, the one who would prepare the people for the Messiah: “A voice cries, ‘In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed.” These are metaphors speaking about preparing a way for Jesus, who would be the triumphant king of Israel, knowing the path to Jerusalem from the east is rough terrain to say the least.
These verses have been coming to mind lately, as I see the Lord moving mountains for us in our journey, making this path relatively smooth and level. I am so thankful for a God who is able to smooth out the rough places and go before us! Thanks be to God who has made a way of salvation and, “who in Christ, always leads us in triumphal procession... (2 Corinthians 2:14)”
We continue to read everything we can to educate ourselves in this process. We continue to pray harder than ever for these two precious adolescents, and for our younger four children, as we seek the Lord to make us a cohesive family. We are investing in our marriage and digging in God’s Word together as we seek to know Christ more than anything in this process.
We do not expect that there will be no bumps along the journey, but we rejoice that we see Him making a way where there was no way before.
God is answering these prayers, ours and yours! Would you continue to pray for us? Pray especially for favor from the Ukrainian authorities, for Tanya and Viktor to have a genuine desire to be part of our family in every way, for our younger four children as they experience all the changes that are to come, for our marriage, and our church family, too. We are forever grateful for your prayers and support!
